ENDORSEMENT CHECKNO. QUIZ

Study next-

Endorsements open tank, hazmat and doubles freight. When you have them, we find loads that use them, and you approve every one.

How the quiz works

There are 18 questions across three endorsements: hazmat (H), tank (N) and doubles/triples (T). Choose one area or all of them. When you answer, the right choice turns green and a short explanation appears. The score panel tracks your total, and the ticket breaks it down by endorsement. Any endorsement under 80% shows up as "study next."

Nothing is saved or sent anywhere. Reset clears your answers.

The endorsements, in short

  • H, hazardous materials. Needed to carry hazmat that requires placards. Adds a TSA background check.
  • N, tank vehicle. Needed for liquid or gas in tanks with 1,000 gallons or more total capacity (each tank over 119 gallons).
  • T, doubles and triples. Needed to pull more than one trailer.
  • X. Hazmat and tank together, on one endorsement.
  • P and S. Passenger and school bus. Not covered here, since they aren't freight endorsements.

A CDL study guide that works

  1. Read the section first. Read the endorsement section in your state's CDL manual once, all the way through.
  2. Take the quiz cold. Your first score shows what you actually remember.
  3. Study the misses. Read the explanation, then find that topic in the manual.
  4. Retake one area at a time. Use the endorsement buttons to focus.
  5. Test when you're above 90% in practice. Test day is harder than your kitchen table.

Hazmat endorsement practice test tips

Hazmat questions are about who does what, and where things go: who classifies the freight, where shipping papers live, how placards are shown and what to do at a rail crossing. Learn the hazard classes by number. Many questions turn on them.

Doubles endorsement practice test tips

Doubles questions come back to two ideas: the last trailer swings hardest, and air has to reach the back. Know the coupling order, the heaviest trailer first, and how to check air at the rear.

What a result means

Above 80% in each area: you're close. Take a few more passes until it's steady. Under 80% in one area: that's where your study time goes. Under 60% overall: read the manual sections again before more practice. Practice tests are good at finding gaps, not at teaching from scratch.

Endorsements open freight

A tank or hazmat endorsement opens fuel, chemical and food-grade tank work. Doubles open LTL linehaul. Dispatch for tanker and hazmat freight starts with your endorsements, your equipment and your lanes. You approve every load, and the rate confirmation comes straight to you. Questions about this calculator

Q01Is this the real CDL test?

No. The questions are written by us from the topics in the CDL manual, to help you practice. Real test questions vary by state. Study your state's CDL manual, and use this quiz to find weak spots.

Q02What score do I need to pass a CDL endorsement test?

Most states require 80% on each knowledge test. Aim higher in practice so a few tricky questions on test day don't sink you.

Q03What do I need for the hazmat endorsement besides the test?

A TSA security threat assessment with fingerprints and a background check, and entry-level driver training for the H endorsement from a provider on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry, if you're getting it for the first time.

Q04Is there a Texas CDL practice test?

Texas uses the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook from DPS, which follows the same national topics. Practice here, then read the Texas handbook sections for the endorsements you want.

Q05What is the doubles endorsement practice test about?

Coupling and uncoupling doubles and triples, checking air to the last trailer, rearward amplification, and the extra space doubles need to stop and change lanes.

Endorsed? Loads that use it.
