Hot shot dispatch service that books to your weight

CDL or non-CDL, gooseneck or bumper pull. We start with your truck and trailer ratings, book loads your rig can legally carry, and plan the reload before you deliver. You approve every one.

MILE02WHERE HOTSHOT MONEY LEAKS

Four leaks on every hotshot week

Hotshot rates look good on the board. What's left after the week usually doesn't, and it's rarely one big mistake. It's these four, a little at a time.

  • Cheap posts taken out of fear of sitting. A $1.60 load to avoid a day off often costs more in fuel and wear than the day off would have.
  • The run home. Oilfield and rural deliveries can leave you 300 empty miles from the next freight.
  • Loads that don't fit. Over your rating, too long for your deck, or needing a dovetail you don't have. Found out at the shipper, it's a wasted day.
  • Slow-paying brokers. Forty-five days on a $1,100 load hurts more on a one-ton than on a fleet.

MILE03LOAD-FIT PLANNER

Tell us the rig. See what fits.

Pick your truck and trailer and enter the ratings from your plates. The scale adds them up against the CDL line, shows the license you need and roughly how much freight the trailer can carry, and lists example loads that fit.

Truck and trailer ratings are typical EXAMPLE values. Use the numbers on your own plates. Federal rule shown; some states add their own.

EXAMPLE LOADS THAT FIT

  • Expedited machine parts
  • Two cars on a wedge
  • Palletized building supplies

Actual weight counts too: if a load puts the rig over 26,000 lb on the scale, it's a CDL rig on that trip, whatever the plates say.

Want the full check with your actual weights? Use the GCWR and non-CDL weight checker.

MILE04CDL AND NON-CDL

Which side of the line are you on?

Non-CDL hotshot

  • Truck GVWR plus trailer GVWR of 26,000 lb or less, and actual weight under it too.
  • No placarded hazmat.
  • Still a commercial vehicle over 10,001 lb: DOT number, medical card, hours of service and ELD rules apply in interstate work.
  • No DOT drug and alcohol testing program required.
  • Where it gets tight: heavy single pieces, full decks of steel, anything over your trailer's leftover rating.

CDL-A hotshot

  • Combined 26,001 lb or more with a trailer rated over 10,000 lb.
  • Heavier loads, 40 ft decks, more of the oilfield and equipment freight.
  • DOT drug and alcohol testing program and Clearinghouse registration required.
  • Higher insurance in many cases, and more loads to choose from.
  • See the DOT testing requirements before your first CDL load.

MILE05FREIGHT WE BOOK

Hotshot freight and what it needs

Oilfield parts and pipe

Chains and binders, site safety rules, sometimes TWIC or a site orientation.

Ag equipment

Ramps or a dovetail, chains, wide-load awareness at harvest.

Construction machines

Skid steers and mini excavators: ramps, four-point chain securement.

Steel and building materials

Straps, chains, edge protectors, sometimes tarps.

Expedited partials

Fast answers on offers, flexible hours, straps ready.

Vehicles on a wedge

Wheel straps, photos at pickup and drop, enough deck for 2-3 cars.

Availability depends on lanes and season: oilfield work follows rig counts, ag freight follows planting and harvest, and construction slows in northern winters. Read more on where hot shot loads come from and, for lighter rigs, how we find non-CDL loads.

MILE07RATES AND FEE

7% of gross, shown on a ticket

A single hotshot runs at 7% of the gross on loads you haul. Hotshot loads are smaller and take more calls per dollar booked than a semi, and the rate covers that. Two or more trucks with authority older than 6 months move to 4%.

Compare a typical week against a 10% dispatcher on the ticket. All rules are on rates and fees, and market context is in our average hot shot rate per mile guide. You can also price a load yourself with the hotshot rate calculator.

  • Never below your floor. We set your lowest all-in rate on the first call.
  • Broker credit checked before a load reaches you.
  • Weight and deck checked on every offer and every rate con.
  • Detention and layover requested in writing when the clock runs.
  • Weekly report with every load, fee and what you kept.

MILE09CHOOSING A HOTSHOT DISPATCHER

Five questions to ask anyone

  1. 01Is the fee on gross or net, and is there a setup fee? Ours: gross, no setup fee.
  2. 02Do I approve every load, and who signs the rate con? Ours: you approve, you sign.
  3. 03Is there a contract or a minimum term? Ours: month to month, 30 days notice.
  4. 04Who owns the broker setups if we part ways? Ours: they're under your MC, so they stay yours.
  5. 05Do they ask for your GCWR and trailer before searching? Ours: it's the first question.
"Hotshot dispatchers just book whatever pays the post."
Some do. We start with your ratings and deck, set your floor rate on the first call, and only bring offers that clear both. If a load needs a dovetail or ramps you don't have, it never reaches you.
"I can find hotshot loads on the apps myself."
You can, and plenty of owners do. What a desk adds is the counteroffer, the broker check and the reload lined up while you're still driving. If the apps are working for you, keep using them.
"I don't want to lose my regular customers."
You won't. Keep hauling for the shippers you already have, and we fill the gaps around them. Tell us on the first call which customers are yours so we plan around them.

The full checklist is in how to pick the best hotshot dispatch. New authority? Start with dispatch for new MCs. Waiting on broker payments? See hotshot factoring.

MILE10FAQ

Hotshot dispatch FAQ

Q01How much does hot shot dispatch cost?

7% of the gross on loads you haul with one hotshot, CDL or non-CDL. With two or more trucks and authority older than 6 months, the fleet rate of 4% applies. No setup fee, no minimums, month to month.

Q02Can you dispatch a non-CDL hotshot?

Yes. If your truck GVWR plus trailer GVWR is 26,000 lb or less, and the actual weight stays there too, you can run without a CDL under federal rules. We only bring you loads that keep you under that line. Check your state's rules as well.

Q03What loads can a non-CDL hotshot haul?

Lighter freight that fits the trailer's leftover rating: machine parts, small equipment, building supplies, expedited partials, one or two vehicles on a wedge. On a derated setup that's often 6,000 to 9,000 lb of freight, so we filter every post by weight first.

Q04Do you dispatch bumper-pull hotshots?

Yes. Bumper pulls are common on non-CDL setups and for car hauling. They carry less weight than a gooseneck, so we match loads to the trailer's rating and deck length, and we watch tongue weight on the loads we bring you.

Q05Do you work with new MC hotshot carriers?

Yes. Many hotshot carriers start with a new authority. We work the brokers that book new MCs, help with carrier packets, and build your history. The rate is the same either way for a single hotshot.

Q06Will you force me to take loads?

No. Every load comes to you as an offer with weight, deck space needed, securement, pickup and delivery windows, rate and broker. You say yes or pass. On a yes the broker sends the rate con straight to you to sign.

Q07How do you cut deadhead for hotshots?

We look for the reload before you deliver, use triangle routes when a straight backhaul doesn't exist, and book partials that chain together. When the empty run home costs more than waiting a day for freight, we tell you.

Q08Do you help with detention and layover pay?

Yes. We get detention terms on the rate con before you accept, track your in and out times, and request detention or layover from the broker in writing when the clock runs past free time.

Hauling cars or flatbed freight on a semi too? See car hauler dispatch and flatbed dispatch, or read how we dispatch.
